A class action settlement with Honeywell resolves claims that the company failed to implement cybersecurity measures that could have prevented a data breach in 2023. The settlement favors people who received a data breach notification between the months of June and September 2023, informing them about what happened to their information, which could have been compromised in a cybersecurity incident discovered in the month of June 2023.
According to the Class Action due to data breach, Honeywell failed to protect consumers from a cyberattack that occurred in June 2023 that put consumer data at risk. Hackers were theoretically able to steal consumer information through a vulnerability in a third-party file-sharing tool.
What Honeywell does, and what can injured parties get?
Honeywell specializes in designing and manufacturing home products such as thermostats, air purifiers, security products, and smart home solutions. Honeywell has not admitted any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to settle the matter. Class Action for data breach. Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive up to $425 in reimbursement for ordinary losses from data breaches, such as banking fees, communication charges, credit charges and more.
The agreement also gives them a compensation for up to three hours of lost time paid at a rate of $27.50 per hour for a maximum lost time payment of $82.50. Class members who were victims of extraordinary losses from data breaches that are linked to fraud or identity theft may receive additional reimbursement of up to $2,750 for such damages.
The members, people who had not previously signed up for credit monitoring services offered by Honeywell, can now do so thanks to the agreement. Honeywell offered affected consumers two years of Experian Identity works services completely free of charge. The deadline for exclusion and objection was September 24, 2024. The final approval hearing of the agreement is scheduled for next November 1, 2024. In order to recipient of the agreement from Honeywell, members of the group have to present a form of claim valid before October 24, 2024.
